Cosmetic surgery refers to a surgical procedure undertaken to reshape and change the appearance of a body part aimed at enhancing self-esteem of the patient. There are also non-surgical cosmetic treatment which deals with internal body tissues. Therefore, cosmetic surgery is usually undertaken for aesthetic reasons.
The following are some of the common cosmetic surgical procedures:
- Breast Surgery – Breast enlargement, breast reduction, or a breast lift.
- Liposuction – this involves use of hollow metal tubes to vacuum fat from abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips and other parts of the body. Note that liposuction should not be seen as a weight-reduction procedure, rather procedure aimed at decrease of fat deposits in specific areas.
- Body Procedures – this includes tummy tuck and buttock augmentation.
- Facial Cosmetic Surgery – covers rhinoplasty (nose job), otoplasty (ear surgery), browplasty (brow lift), chin augmentation, malar (cheek augmentation) and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
In addition, some of the less invasive procedures include peels, fillers, injections, grafting, and laser treatment.
